Fans got their first look at Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance this summer with the first trailer, but Netflix has released a full four-minute clip from the upcoming film. Part of the long-running Gundam franchise, Requiem for Vengeance is the second production to be entirely computer-animated—the first being Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO—and the first entire series animated using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.
“In the year 0079 UC (Universal Century), the Principality of Zeon declares independence from the Earth Federation, plunging the two nations into war,” reads the series' official synopsis. “With the help of a revolutionary new weapon known as the Mobile Suit, the Zeon Force initially gains the upper hand. However, it lacks the power to take control of the entire Earth, ending the war.”
The film takes place eleven months after the start of the war and shows Earth Federation forces attempting to seize a Zeon-controlled base located somewhere in Eastern Europe. As the skirmish continues, pilot Iria Sorari and the Red Wolves Division, a mobile suit platoon, join the fray.
Written by Gavin Hignight (Tekken: Bloodline) and directed by Erasmus Brosdau, the film is a collaboration between animation giants Sunrise and SAFEHOUSE, Inc.
Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance will premiere on October 17, exclusively on Netflix.
