Labor Day is just around the corner, and Americans across the country are gearing up to celebrate the last great summer vacation. Just where are they going?
AAA's latest booking data shows some interesting trends for Labor Day. Seattle is the No. 1 Labor Day weekend destination, according to the organization. Surprisingly, bookings to the Emerald City are up nearly 30 percent compared to last year, when it was the most popular domestic destination for Labor Day travelers. Overall, the number of domestic trips during the holiday weekend increased by 9 percent compared to last year.
While other common travel destinations like New York City and Las Vegas make the list, only one state boasts two entries in the top 10, and it's probably not the one you'd expect: Alaska, with Anchorage at third and Juneau at ninth.
Alaska travel is especially associated with travelers traveling out of these cities around The Last Frontier.
Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel, said in a statement: “This is the time of year to take an Alaskan cruise. “There are less crowds than earlier in the summer, and if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the fall colors! It's no surprise that Alaska cruises are sold out this Labor Day weekend.”
Next summer may be a long way off, but if you're looking to cruise Alaska in the summer of 2025, book now to get the best rates and room availability.
