Valve has announced that it will be changing the rules regarding what developers and publishers can write in their store descriptions on Steam.
Starting in early September, four sections of the Steam store pages will be affected: “About the game,” “Brief description,” “Any special announcements,” and “Rewards.” The first new rule is that no links to other websites will be allowed in these sections, including links to social media pages. This is because the store pages already have specific link fields for social media platforms or common websites.
No embedded images that mimic the Steam Store UI or buttons will be allowed, including those that resemble wishlist buttons, game capsules, or prices. Additionally, no images, links, or widgets that point to other games on Steam will be allowed. This essentially means that developers cannot use the Store page description to advertise other products on Steam.
Steam has recently implemented other changes, including making it easier for players to search for specific games and making it easier to discover game demos.
