Rob Lowe was a guest on the latest episode of Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson Where everyone knows your name podcast, where he accidentally made a shocking confession about hanging out with Michael J. Fox in the '80s, when the stars were at the height of their fame.
Although Lowe and Danson were both extremely famous at the time, Danson admitted that they never ran in the same circuit and did not know each other at the time. However, the two actors discovered they had a mutual friend, actress and political activist Jane Fonda, which led to Lowe reminiscing about her activist days.
“My favorite is, you know, if you want to shut down a nuclear power plant, me and Meg Ryan are the best people to do it.” “I mean, you know it's going to make you rethink your energy priorities when we show up.”
Lowe then brought up the time he participated in the Hollywood Clean Water Caravan's political campaign in support of Proposition 65, an initiative to tighten state laws on toxic waste. The bus tour, filled with the biggest names of the '80s, traveled through California to educate voters on the issue. Lowe and Fox had an accidental run-in with the police on that bus tour.
“I just remember it like it was yesterday. I love doing everything” Parks and Recreation – explained the star, noting that the couple obviously missed each other even then. “It was Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the great producers, and there was a bus tour across California for Prop 65, which was about cleaning up our water system, and everybody on the planet was on it.”
“But there were two different buses, it looks like you weren't on either bus,” Lowe said, which Danson confirmed.
“We got pulled over for speeding — well, because Michael J. Fox and I smoked pot on top of the Greyhound bus,” he continued. “And the cop pulled us over and it was like a clown car. Out came Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, Judd Nelson, Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Robert Downey Jr., Jane Fonda, Danny Glover.”
When asked if they pulled over because of the smoke, Lowe added with a laugh, “We grabbed the top emergency hatch, Michael and I, and we smoked pot.”
Unfortunately, the subject changed before he could elaborate, but apparently the young actors were not charged with indiscretion. Of course, given that Lowe has maintained his sobriety since 1990, just a few years after the incident, it's probably pretty easy for him to look back and laugh now.
