Marco Angulo, the Ecuadorian-born soccer star who became known as a Major League Soccer player in the United States, died at the age of 22.
Angulo was involved in a car accident in Ecuador last month and died from his injuries on November 11. TMZ. He played for Ecuador's Independiente del Valle and Independiente Juniors before joining MLS FC Cincinnati in 2023. Most recently, he was loaned to LDU Quito from Cincinnati.
In a statement, FC Cincinnati mourned the loss of the rising midfielder.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Marco – a husband and father, a brother and son, a friend and teammate. He was a joyful, kind young man who lit up every room,” the team said The Guardian. “Our entire club is mourning this tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. He was a cherished member of the FC Cincinnati family and will be missed.”

Angulo represented his country in the Ecuadorian national football team in 2022. Before last month's car accident, Angulo was involved in another accident in Guayaquil in November 2022. While he survived, the driver of the car died. The October 2024 incident led to the death of her friend Roberto Cabezas, a player for Independiente Juniors.
