Developer Maschinen-Mensch has unveiled Mother Machine, a co-op action-platformer with RPG elements. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game lets up to four players take control of an adorable chaos gremlin, exploring a series of procedurally generated cave systems for resources, and regularly meeting a gruesome end at the hands of a malfunctioning robot mother.
Maschinen-Mensch aims to deliver a title that is accessible to all skill levels, and balanced co-op mechanics will allow expert players to team up with newcomers to explore complex, procedurally designed alien caves. The studio also says it was influenced by several games when developing Mother Machine, such as Spelunky, the Oddworld series, and Helldivers 2.
While your gremlin's basic abilities allow it to run, climb, and jump through these replayable levels, you can also experiment with a wide range of mutations tailored to specific playstyles. Players can use sweeping attacks, healing farts, and weaponized burps to take down any enemies they encounter.
Together, players will be able to discover more resources and secrets as they venture deeper into the depths of this strange planet. And if they meet an untimely end? Mother can always 3D print a new set of mischievous science experiments to continue the mission and realize her dark ambition.
Mother Machine is expected to launch in 2025 on PC.
