Intel has reportedly lost a contract for Sony's PlayStation 6 chips to Advanced Micro Devices in 2022, losing $30 billion in potential revenue.
That's according to Retuers, with sources saying the deal fell through after Intel and Sony couldn't agree on “how much Intel was able to take from each chip sold.”
The sources claimed that internal projections from Intel indicated that Sony's console business “could pump roughly $30 million into the company” if the deal went through.
Reuters also noted that it may have provided a financial boost to Intel's foundry segment, which was officially launched earlier this year.
In response to the claims, an Intel spokesperson said, “We certainly disagree with the characterization, but we're not going to comment on any current or potential customer conversations. We have a very healthy supply of customers across both our product and foundry businesses. We're directly focused on innovating to meet their needs.” “
AMD has had a design contract with Sony since 2014, producing its own chips for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
