As you start to accumulate resources in Minecraft, you will run out of space in your inventory. When this happens, the easiest solution is to put all non-essential items in a chestThe guide below shows you how to craft a chest and make it even bigger.
How to Create a Chest in Minecraft
There aren't many items that are easier to craft than a chest in Minecraft. It only requires one basic resource that you can obtain within two minutes of arriving in a new world. The recipe for crafting a chest is as follows:
- On a crafting table, place eight planks of any type in all boxes except the middle one.

Planks are extremely easy to obtain. All you need to do is chop down a tree, acquire its logs, and then place those logs into a single box on a crafting table. This produces dozens of planks, which you can use to build a base or craft a chest. As previously mentioned, you only need eight planks to craft a single chest, which can be made from two tree logs.
Once you have crafted the chest, equip it to your hotbar and hover over that hotbar slot. You can now place the chest on any applicable block in Minecraft. A basic chest can hold 27 items, which is plenty for an early-game player. However, if you want to increase this limit, you can craft another chest and place it directly to the left or right of an existing chest. This will combine the two chests into one, doubling the chest's inventory capacity (to 54 items).

While you can simply build multiple chests in different areas, the larger chest will look cleaner throughout your base and save space. Chests are also used in a variety of different recipes in Minecraft, including a chest boat, so it's always a good idea to have a few extra chests on hand.
