We were promised some major Fortnite reveals at Disney's D23 event last Saturday (what else could warrant an in-game livestream?) and that's exactly what we got. The biggest was that Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4, which starts on August 16, will be a new Marvel-centric season called Absolute Doom, with a battle pass full of Marvel skins, like a new Peely called Peelverine.
What we have here in this trailer is the full reveal of the Battle Pass, as well as a look at some of the new gameplay goodies we'll be able to play with. The Battle Pass lineup will consist of Gwenpool (the instant unlock), War Machine, Emma Frost, Shuri, Mysterio, Peelverine, and Captain Jonesy as skins you'll unlock by leveling up, and Doctor Doom will be the mid-season unlock, similar to Magneto this season.
We also got a glimpse of Marvel's new powers, which appear to include Shuri's claws, War Machine's weaponry, Iron Man's energy blasts and flight, Captain America's shield, and Doctor Doom's gauntlets. It's worth noting that we didn't see anything at all from the Fantastic Four during this time.
That's huge, sure, but the D23 presentation was also marked by other surprises: they brought together the creative heads of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel. While each of them described these collaborations as extensions of their franchise's story, these announcements all involved new skins.
The first skins based on classic Disney cartoon villains have been revealed: Cruella DeVille, Captain Hook, and Maleficent have been shown off, with the promise of a fall release, which could indicate they'll be part of Fortnitemares in October. Adding to the animated fun, Fortnite will be getting its first Pixar skins in the form of a collaboration with The Incredibles.
And while the Battle Pass exclusivity change won't help you get the old Mandalorian skin and Grogu backpack, on August 12, skins for IG-11 and Moff Gideon will be added to the Item Shop and there will also be a new Grogu backpack available for those who missed the previous one.
