Tippet has been open about his past struggles with steroid use, which has seen him go to court several times and contemplate suicide. “It was hell, bro,” Tippet said in a 2022 interview (via The New York Post). “I lost a girlfriend to him and almost lost my family. I almost went to jail because I got caught with my own steroid use.” Tippet believes he was able to turn his life around because “God looked at me. He saw some potential in me and saw a bigger person in me.”

On his birthday, Tippet posted 30 lessons he's learned over 30 years on Instagram. “Getting old is better than the alternative: dying young,” read one. “In the end, all that matters is that you loved me.”
