Team Folon's Fallout London mod set a record on the GOG store within two weeks of its release and is now the “fastest downloaded game of all time.”
The mod was downloaded over 500,000 times in the first 24 hours, and was so successful that Team FOLON announced that it would be launching as an independent studio.
Speaking to the BBC, the team's project lead Dean Carter reiterated that the mod is free. However, he added that while the team loved working on it, “free doesn't pay our bills.”
“We’re hoping to start our own independent game company, which will allow us to come up with our own ideas, make our own games, and work without having to talk to anyone above us, like Bethesda or whatever,” Carter said. “It’ll be our own company and we’ll be able to make a game that we want, that we think the community will enjoy. Fallout London was a great springboard for that.”
As for Fallout London, the team is still planning to release content for the mod. Not everything made it into the final release. This includes a new ending, which the team is calling the “wildcard ending.” But it's worth mentioning that this won't be coming out anytime soon as the team sees themselves “working through the end of the year.”
